These days, a lot of internet users consider viewing YouTube videos as part of their internet experiences

Lower the video resolution

Firstly, it’s worth noting that the lower the video quality you choose to watch, the less data we’ll need to use for streaming video on YouTube. That means reducing the video quality is more than a perfect way that allows you to save your data and bandwidth. Normally, the quality options of 480p and 360p seem quite good enough for your streaming experience.

So, how to lower the video quality?

  • To reduce video quality on PC: Do you see the Gear icon in the playback window? Click on that icon ⇨ Select “Quality” ⇨ Opt for the resolution you want.

  • To reduce video quality on mobile devices: Do you see the three-dot menu on the top right corner of the playback window? Yep, tap on it ⇨ Choose Quality ⇨ Select the resolution you want.

After reducing your video quality to an ideal option, you will not find YouTube one of the bandwidth-hogging apps anymore.

Disable the autoplay

By default, YouTube will automatically play the next video when the current one ends. Well, what if that next video isn’t what you want to view? Needless to say, it’s a waste of your data, right? Due to that reason, turning off the autoplay feature is also a good idea to save your data usage when streaming YouTube content.

To disable the autoplay feature on mobile devices, you need to open the YouTube app ⇒ tap on the profile picture ⇒ choose Settings ⇒ opt for the AutoPlay section, and uncheck the “Autoplay next video” option. That’s done!

To disable the autoplay feature on PC, you just need to the toggle button (it’s right on the left side of the “Gear” icon in your playback window). Flick that button, and then you can disable the autoplay feature.

Do you know that the YouTube mobile app lets users download videos for offline viewing?

Download videos for offline watching

Do you know that the YouTube mobile app lets users download videos for offline viewing? Yep, that’s true. However, the downloading videos feature is just available in selected regions or countries. Well, it’s so great if you are in an area where this feature is allowed. If that’s the case, then you can easily save the content that you want to enjoy when your device has a WiFi connection and view the downloaded video anytime and anywhere you want without connecting to the internet. This way, you can save an enormous amount of data. Also, your YouTube is no longer one of the bandwidth hogging apps when you using this feature.

Conclusion

These are easy ways to reduce data usage while streaming YouTube content that we want to introduce you via this post. Along with these tips, you can also limit data usage on the device, use YouTube Go (the lighter version of the YouTube mobile app), and more to save more data. YouTube will not be one of the bandwidth hogging apps if you know how to reduce the usage data and bandwidth on your devices.

Does Cox throttle the internet? All you need to know

If you are here, you are probably frustrated with the incredibly slow speed of your internet. Many people face a slow internet connection when it comes to increased levels of bandwidth consumption.  This is more evident when streaming HD quality content or playing sizeable games online. However, it is not just a matter of a lagging internet. In most cases, the slower speed is an intentional tactic your Internet service provider (ISP) uses to optimize their bandwidth capacity. This practice is commonly known as bandwidth throttling, where the user is only allowed a certain set of bandwidth per second.  While this might seem counterintuitive when you think from a customer experience perspective, it makes a lot of business sense to the internet service provider.
